The Five-Minute Mediator & Conflict Coach
Sometimes you know things could be done differently when you see something occur or and know a meeting could get tense - two colleagues or departments disagreeing, a staff person and a customer, a board or committee member and the public. They are each wrapped up in their own position and can’t find a way to solve the problem.
This is when you might be able to mediate informally to help find common ground or coach someone about how to communicate more effectively in the future. In this workshop you will learn about some of the basic elements of mediation to informally help people problem solve in the moment. We will cover a problem solving structure, communication skills, questions, de-escalation techniques and how to build agreement. At other times it may be helpful to debrief an interaction you observed and give someone feedback or help them prepare for a potentially tough meeting. In these situations you can be a conflict coach to help improve future interactions.
*4 Continuing Education Credits will be provided for CZEOs
